Michigan Worksafe Program

What is WorkSafe?

WorkSafe is a dynamic back safety and ergonomic training program, and is available FREE to Michigan companies. WorkSafe focuses on the personal responsibility employees must take to ensure their own back safety in the workplace and at home. The Michigan Association of Chiropractors (MAC) and the State of Michigan fund the program. How does WorkSafe work?

Our trained doctors conduct one-hour presentations on proper ways to lift, bend and move. Before each program, doctors conduct and evaluative walk-through of the worksite to customize the presentation. The doctor will show a short video to the employees and review a 16-page back safety booklet during a group discussion. Together, the WorkSafe doctor and the employees will discuss practical solutions that are unique to the workplace. The doctors at Northwoods Family Chiropractic are trained Worksafe doctors and can provide training for your employees. Call our office for further information.

Change of Scope

Michigan has restored the scope of practice for all Michigan licensed chiropractors Here is an excerpt from the Michigan Association of Chiropractic's website:

BOC Approves New Instruments, Procedures Allowed Under Scope!

At the May Board of Chiropractic meeting, the Board voted on and approved a list of analytical instruments, adjustment apparatus, physical measures, and tests allowed under Michigan's new chiropractic scope of practice. After an analysis from the Michigan Department of Community Health, in consultation with the Board of Chiropractic, the list has been approved by the State and doctors of chiropractic in Michigan may immediately begin using the instruments and apparati, as well as performing all physical measures and tests, contained in the list. The list includes:

  • Physical measures used for correcting or reducing subluxations, misalignments and joint dysfunctions, including massage, mobilization, heat, cold, light, water, electricity, sound, traction, decompression, taping, and rehabilitative exercises.
  • Tests for the diagnosis of human conditions and disorders of the human musculoskeletal and nervous systems as they relate to subluxations, misalignments, and joint dysfunctions, including neurologic, orthopedic, muscle testing, gait, blood, urine, hair, and saliva (Review full list for prohibitions on some tests).
  • Non-invasive imaging tests, consistent with modern technology and related to spinal subluxations.
  • Analytical instruments used in the diagnosis of human conditions and disorders of the human musculoskeletal and nervous systems as they relate to subluxations, misalignments, and joint dysfunctions.
  • Adjustment apparatus for correcting or reducing subluxations, misalignments and joint dysfunctions, including, but not limited to, traction devices, adjustment instruments, adjustment tables, and musculoskeletal stabilizers.

Rodeo

The chiropractic physicians at Northwoods Family Chiropractic were asked this year to participate in this years, 2010 UP Championship Rodeo. Both doctors provided chiropractic services to all cowboys and cowgirls who performed in this years events. This event was a huge success and all participants were very thankful for the level of care that they received. This is something that will, hopefully, continue into the future.

Northwoods Family Chiropractic has once again been asked to participate in the 2011 U.P. Championship Rodeo.  Drs. Kim and Tony will be caring for the cowboys/cowgirls and Rodeo workers as they did last year.  This years rodeo will be held on July 23 and 24.  Come and join us at the rodeo.

School Supply Fundraiser

The 2010 school supply fundraiser was again a great success with individuals from both sides of the county donating supplies for our local school children. Several local businesses also donated supplies from their organization. As a thank you for their generosity, Northwoods Family Chiropractic donated three - 1/2 hour massages to donating individuals. A donation was also made by Northwoods Family Chiropractic to both West Iron County Public Schools and Forest Park Public Schools for their library funds. A big thank you to the community for helping our local kids!!

Community Talks

Please remember, both physicians are available for education talks to various community and school groups. Please call our office to schedule an education talk for your organization.
